What would happen to your family if you died? So what is term life insurance or "term insurance"?
Basically, term insurance is like "renting" an
insurance policy. You do not build any cash value but it is a
cheap solution to a short term need for coverage. One example
of a situation that would call for term insurance would be if one
has taken out a mortgage for, say, 15 years. In this case, it
may be of benefit to take out a "15 year" term policy whereby the
premium is level for 15 years on a guaranteed basis. This
defined, limited, length of coverage is in contrast with a
"permanent" policy or what is commonly referred to as "universal
life insurance" or "whole life". More about permanent policies
